About Ditrim

Ditrim is a veterinary drug. It is effective against certain types of pathogenic bacteria:

  • Klebsiella,
  • E. coli
  • Protei
  • toxoplasma
  • shigella
  • Brucella,
  • Pasteurella,
  • salmonella,
  • Amery and others.

A broad-spectrum antibiotic is intended for the treatment of various farm animals for diseases caused by the Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria listed above.

Ditrim refers to the drugs of the middle class danger. With the introduction of the drug intramuscularly, the maximum concentration of the active substances in the blood is reached within 2-3 hours, and the antibacterial effect lasts for a day. The removal of chemical components from the body occurs through the urinary system.

Attention! In lactating females, an antibiotic is excreted in milk.

Do not slaughter rabbits after using Dithrim for 28 days. If animals are sent for slaughter forcedly before the deadline, they do not eat their meat, but use it to feed dogs or other animals. The product can be used for the production of meat and bone meal.

Composition and release form

Ditrim is a light yellow solution. It is intended for oral administration and in the form of injections. In vetaptekah the medicine is sold either in ampoules with a capacity of 5 ml, or in sealed glass bottles of 20, 50 or 100 ml.

Ditrim is a light yellow solution

The preparation includes 2 types of active ingredients:

  • sulfadimezin,
  • trimethoprim.

1 ml of solution contains 40 mg of trimethoprim and 200 mg of sulfadimezin. Additives are used as excipients - pyrrolidone, distilled water, benzyl alcohol and others.

Indications for use

In the instructions for use to Ditrim stated that the drug treats diseases of the digestive system, urinary system, respiratory tract, which are caused by bacteria that are sensitive to trimethoprim and sulfadimezine.

For rabbits, this medicine is used for:

  • eimeriosis (coccidiosis),
  • pneumonia,
  • pasteurellosis.

Attention! Dithrim is used not only to treat coccidiosis in rabbits, but also to prevent this disease.

Instructions for use and dosage

Ditrim rabbits are recommended to give in the form of an aqueous solution. It is prepared every day and poured into a drinking bowl. You can not offer pets clean water during treatment. The dosage for the rabbit is calculated on the basis of the body weight of the animal - 0.1 ml / kg. That is, a pet who weighs 4 kg needs to take 0.4 ml of medication per day. Since most of the livestock is usually infected with coccidiosis, a whole group of animals must be treated simultaneously. In this case, prepare a sufficient amount of solution for all pets, observing the dosage - 1 ml of the drug per liter of water.

Do not offer clean water to pets during treatment.

The therapeutic course continues for 2 days after the symptoms of the disease disappear completely. Veterinarians offer one of the Ditrim treatment regimens:

  • medication is taken daily for 5-7 days,
  • The medicine is given in recommended doses for 3 days, then a two-day break is taken, after which the treatment is continued for another 3 days.

Attention! The drug does not cause negative effects, if you follow the doses indicated in the instructions. If they are exceeded, dysbacteriosis develops or the kidneys are disturbed.

Ditrim is contraindicated during pregnancy, since the constituent components are able to penetrate the placenta and affect embryos. For the same reason, it is not recommended to give medicine to lactating females.

Other contraindications to the drug Ditrim:

  • intolerance to sulfonamides,
  • kidney disease.

Ditrim is a broad spectrum antibiotic. It is recommended for rabbits for the treatment of ameriosis (coccidiosis). It is important to strictly follow the instructions for use and not to exceed the doses indicated in it. Otherwise, the pets may have impaired bowel and kidney function.

What is Dithrim?

"Ditrim" - a tool with extensive antibacterial action, which is used to treat respiratory, intestinal and genital diseases in young individuals of farm animals. Its composition contains trimethoprim and sulfadimezin, two active components that enhance the effects of each other, which effectively fight pathogenic microorganisms. The tool has several advantages over other veterinary products, including:

  • powerful double effect on bacteria
  • minimal toxic effect
  • the lack of resistance of microorganisms to the active ingredients of the preparation.

"Ditrim" - an effective remedy for the treatment of animals

Dietrim's spectrum of action covers a variety of microbes, both gram-positive and gram-negative, including coccidia, streptococci, Klebsiella, etc. It is a light yellow liquid for intramuscular (intravenous) administration or ingestion. Available in tightly sealed packages of 20, 50 and 100 ml.

"Ditrim" can be used both for oral administration and intramuscularly (intravenously)

Pharmacological properties

The active components of the tool have the ability to destroy the metabolism of acids, which are necessary for the vital activity of foreign microorganisms, which ensures its antibacterial effect. After the introduction of Dietrim, they quickly penetrate the bloodstream, reach the infected tissues and concentrate in them. The highest concentration is observed 2-3 hours after the drug enters the body and remains at the level required for the therapeutic effect for 18-24 hours. The remedy is derived mainly by the kidneys, and partly by the bile ducts, as well as with the milk of females feeding the young.

Mode of application

The drug is intended for intramuscular injection (horses injected intravenously) once a day, the standard dosage is 1 ml / 10 kg, and the solution should be administered in different places on the body (no more than 20 ml can be injected into the same point). In case of acute diseases, “Dithrim” can be applied twice a day for 2 days before the signs of the disease disappear. Therapeutic course - no more than 7-8 days.

Horses drug is administered intravenously

Small animals and birds "Ditrim" is prescribed orally - an aqueous solution is made from it. The recommended dosage is 1 ml / 1 l of water. During therapy, it is allowed to use two schemes:

  • to drink infected individuals for five days,
  • give medicine for two days, after which there is a two-day break and again a three-day use of the drug.

In the photo, the medicine is given to the rabbit orally.

Side effects with proper use of the drug usually does not occur. Inflammations and infiltrates are possible at the injection site, which are self-administered after completion of the course of treatment. If standard dosages are exceeded in “patients”, dysfunction of the kidneys and the digestive system (dysbacteriosis) is possible. In this case, “Ditrim” therapy should be canceled and rehabilitation therapy should be administered to animals.

At the injection site, inflammations are possible, which pass on their own after completing the course of treatment.

The main analogues of Ditrim are preparations from the group of sulfonamides, Triprim and Ultradiazine.

"Ditrim" against coccidiosis in rabbits

Dietrim gained particular popularity among rabbit breeders, as it effectively fights with one of the most common diseases of these animals - coccidiosis. This ailment often leads to a massive mortality of young individuals, therefore, competent and timely therapy plays a very important role in this case.

Dithrim is effective against coccidiosis in rabbits

What is coccidiosis?

Coccidiosis (eymerioz) - an infectious disease of rabbits, which is caused by the simplest microorganisms coccidia. Getting into the blood of animals, they parasitize in the liver and intestines of rabbits, disrupting the activity of these vital organs. Coccidia are sensitive to high temperatures, but are resistant to negative environmental factors. Most often, coccidiosis causes sick rabbits at the age of 3-4 months (in adults, the disease is less common). Rabbits, who have just stopped drinking breast milk, are in the zone of particular risk - due to changes in the dietary regime, coccidiosis can develop in the small intestine. Sick rabbits become carriers of the disease for life, so it is best to get rid of them.

The simplest microorganisms - coccidia

Warning: if a dead animal was ill with coccidiosis, then after opening the carcass on his liver and intestines there will be a large number of white patches. Despite the fact that the disease is not transmitted to humans, it is not recommended to eat infected organs.

What is dangerous coccidiosis?

Rabbit coccidiosis is not transmitted to humans and other animals, with the exception of poultry. The main danger of diseases lies in the fact that it flares up suddenly, spreads with great speed and often leads to the death of young individuals.

Coccidiosis can lead to death of young individuals.

Causes of coccidiosis

Among the reasons that cause the disease, in the first place includes inappropriate care for rabbits. Microorganisms penetrate into the blood of animals through faeces or contaminated food, therefore, an important role is played by the purity of cells, feeders and drinkers. If there are too many rabbits in the cage, the spread of coccidiosis is accelerated. In addition, the disease can spread rodents and other animals (dogs, chickens, cats) that penetrate into the cells - usually this happens when the craws are kept on the street or in agricultural buildings.

The primary cause of coccidiosis is improper rabbit care.

Another factor that provokes the development of the disease - errors in the diet of animals. The main mistakes of breeders include:

  • too fast weaning of young from mother
  • abrupt diet change, switching to a different type of food,
  • absence in the ration of rabbits concentrated feed, carrots, hay,
  • feeding marsh rabbits or any other sour grass,
  • overfeeding with protein food, powdered milk, wheat seeding.

Symptoms of the disease

The incubation period of the disease lasts 2-3 days, it can occur in an acute form or develop into a chronic one. The main symptom of coccidiosis is bloating in rabbits. Animals lose their appetite, digestive function is impaired (diarrhea alternates with constipation), wool becomes dull and disheveled. First, rabbits begin to drink a lot, and then gradually lose weight even when feeding with nutritious food, which contains all the necessary substances.

A bloated belly in a rabbit is the main symptom of coccidiosis

When the liver form of the disease they have yellow mucous membranes, while intestinal observed discharge from the nose and eyes. At the advanced stage of the disease in the rabbits, convulsions begin, after which they can roll over onto their backs and die, with the dead individuals lying with their heads thrown back.

Yellowed mucous membrane is a sign of the hepatic form of the disease, and discharge from the eye is a sign of intestinal

The rabbits die most quickly when coccidia are parasitized in the intestine in about 10-15 days. With liver damage, this period is extended to 50 days, and both forms of the disease can be observed simultaneously. There are also mild forms of the disease that do not threaten the lives of individuals.

Preparations against coccidiosis in rabbits

In addition to Ditrim, drugs called coccidiostatics are used to treat coccidiosis in rabbits. It is important to note that the use of antibiotics (except for drugs of a wide range), phthalazoles and norsulfazoles is ineffective in this case, since the microorganisms that cause the disease are resistant to their effects.

Step-by-step instructions for the treatment of coccidiosis in rabbits with the Dithrim drug

To cure rabbits from coccidiosis and prevent its spread, it is necessary to strictly follow the instructions for the preparation and take additional measures to prevent outbreaks of the disease in the future.

Step 1. Sow the infected rabbits into separate cells, provide them with an appropriate dietary mode - introduce more vitamin A and B1 in their diets, as well as dairy products (whey, yogurt, etc.).

Infected rabbits need to be planted.

Step 2. Carefully examine all other animals - all individuals with the slightest suspicion of coccidiosis should also be isolated for at least 30 days. It is recommended to open the dead rabbits to make sure that the diagnosis is correct.

It is necessary to carefully examine all individuals.

Step 3. Prepare the Ditrim solution - to do this, open the medicine bottle, dissolve it in water based on the calculation of 1 ml of solution per liter of water.

Step 4. To feed the rabbits with a solution according to one of the regimens: for 5 days or according to the 3-2-3 scheme (taking the drug for 3 days, 2 days break, then another 3 days of therapy). The finished solution should be used during the day, unused, poured and cooked fresh. Giving animals simple water during treatment is not recommended. In advanced cases, the drug can be poured into the animals' mouth with a syringe without a needle twice a day until the symptoms of coccidiosis disappear.

To give the rabbit some medicine, you can use a syringe without a needle.

Step 5. Since the recovered individuals are carriers of the disease, it is better not to leave them among the rest and send them to the face. Carcasses of these animals can be used for food purposes (except for the liver and intestines) as soon as a sufficient amount of time passes after the last administration of the drug.

Step 6. Well clean and disinfect the cages in which sick animals were kept. In addition, it is necessary to analyze the conditions of the rabbits, to identify errors that could provoke the development of coccidiosis, and eliminate them.

Need to clean and sanitize cells after sick animals.

To reduce the risk of coccidiosis to a minimum, you must regularly carry out preventive measures using Dietrim or other means.

Prevention of coccidiosis

  1. Dithrim. As a preventive measure for the disease of rabbits, it is necessary to drink once a month with an aqueous solution of the preparation (1 ml per liter of water) for three days.
  2. Iodine. One of the prophylactic agents that is used to prevent coccidiosis is an aqueous solution of iodine (concentration of 0.01-0.02%). It is given to pregnant rabbits according to the following scheme: from the 25th day of gestation on rabbits, on the 5th day of feeding, each day, 100 ml (solution 0.01%), after which 5 days break and another 15 days at 200 ml (solution 0, 02%).

Iodine can be used to prevent coccidiosis

Lactic acid. Lactic acid is also used in the form of an aqueous solution, which is replaced by water for drinking. To prepare the solution, you need to dilute 2 tablespoons. spoon in 10 liters of water and pour on drinkers. You can also use lactic acid to disinfect feed - 0.5 ml of solution per kilogram. Such prevention is especially useful for young rabbits after weaning them from their mother.

Lactic acid can also be used to prevent coccidiosis.

A very important role in the prevention of coccidiosis is played by the correct conditions of animals, which are as follows:

  • it is best to keep rabbits on the floor of the grid or cutting, so that the feces do not accumulate in the cage, but fall down,
  • regularly clean the cells from litter and dirt, scald feeding troughs and drinking bowls with boiling water,
  • keep animals away from poultry, as chickens, ducks and turkeys are also subject to disease,
  • individuals of different ages should also be seated in separate cells,
  • in the room where animals are kept, there should be no moisture, drafts or sudden changes in temperature,
  • from time to time, disinfect the cells with a blowtorch or solution of whiteness,
  • when weaning young rabbits from the mother, do not change the mode of feeding and the type of feed,
  • if there is a need to transfer animals to another feed, you need to do it gradually,
  • Do not pour food onto a surface that is contaminated with rabbit feces,
  • Rabbit food must be complete, contain sufficient amounts of minerals and vitamins (do not abuse protein foods, sour grass, bran)
  • When purchasing new individuals, you should make sure that they have a certificate of 30-day quarantine and vaccinations against infectious diseases (if there is no such certificate, quarantine and vaccination should be carried out independently).

It is impossible to fully protect rabbits from coccidiosis, since its pathogens live in animals, but with preventative measures and proper treatment of infected individuals, mass outbreaks of the disease can be avoided.

The drug quickly penetrates the organs and tissues of the body. The maximum concentration of the drug is achieved in 2-3 hours. Therapeutic concentration is maintained day after injection. The components of the drug are excreted in the urine and feces.

Dithrim, use for treating rabbit coccidiosis

In the Ditrim manual there is no indication of the effectiveness of this type of coccidia / amimer antibiotic of any form. The efficacy of ditrim in the treatment of coccidiosis is possibly explained by the elimination by ditrim (sulfonamide + antibiotic) of adverse pathogens of intestinal and hepatic pathology, which always accompany coccidiosis of rabbits. This is called a mediated effect on the parasite.

Ditrim for rabbits: how to apply, from what and what diseases

In addition, there are certain storage standards Ditrim, if the package with the drug was opened. In this case, it is impossible to use the agent for treating rabbits for more than one month, and its storage temperature should be within 5-25 degrees plus.

What is applied against

Ditrim is a fairly versatile tool that helps fight pathogenic bacteria in different parts of the animal's body.

Therapy with a remedy is successfully carried out in case of various infectious diseases in the following organ systems:

  • Airways,
  • gastrointestinal tract,
  • urogenital system.

As mentioned above, the drug is made up of two main active ingredients - sulfadimezina and trimethoprim. These antibiotics organically complement each other's action, so a mixture of them has a strong effect and is appreciated by veterinarians and rabbit breeders.

The composition of Dietrim (1 ml):

  • sulfadimine (sulfadimidine) - 200 mg,
  • trimethoprim (trimethoprim) - 40 mg,
  • auxiliary components (benzyl alcohol, 2-pyrrolidone, sodium thiosulfate, disodium salt, distilled water).

Intramuscular injection

The dosage of the drug is the same for different pets - 1 ml per 10 kg of live weight. Thus, for an adult large rabbit, which weighs about 10 kg, just an injection of 1 mg Dietrim is suitable. With a light or medium course of the disease, therapy at a given dosage is carried out once a day. If the animal is seriously ill, then the first 2–3 days can be given two shots per day. In total, this course is designed for 3-7 days, during which a noticeable improvement in the condition should occur.

Considering the painfulness of the injection and the powerful effect of the agent, in simple cases it is better to prefer to heat the pets with a freshly prepared solution of the drug - 1 mg of Dietrim is added to a liter of water. Prevention of such a mixture is carried out for three days.

A treatment can be on two schemes - or continuously for 5 days, or three days of admission, a break of two days, and again three for therapy.

Precautionary measures

Despite positive reviews about the use of this drug, in some cases it is necessary to refrain from its use. The organism of each animal is individual, therefore simple intolerance of the components that make up Dietrim can appear.

Side effects

When following the recommendations of the doctor and instructions to the drug, side effects from its use do not occur.

In case of exceeding the dosage or the time of taking the drug, side effects are possible in rabbits:

  • disruption of the gastrointestinal tract, manifested in the form of diarrhea,
  • a disorder of the kidneys or liver.

In this case, give Ditrim stop and treat with probiotics, vitamins and gastric lavage with alkaline solutions.

As already mentioned, another side effect of taking the drug in the form of an injection is the strong pain from the injection. Hematoma or redness may occur on the injured area, which will disappear after the end of therapy.

Can I eat meat after using the drug

The period of withdrawal of the drug from the body of the animal is about eight days. Only after the expiration of this term of the cured pet can it be slaughtered and its meat used as food.

To help the rabbits to avoid the occurrence of a deadly disease for them is quite simple - no need to densely colonize the cells, it is necessary to keep animals in clean, dry and warm rooms. Also, do not forget about the correct mode of feeding, vitamin supplements and prevention with the help of the same Dietrim.
