Stromanty grow as herbaceous perennials, reaching up to 60-80 centimeters in height. The leaves, which are constantly turned towards the sun, are very beautiful, large enough. And their green and cream irregular strips, located along the entire length of the leaf, give the plant a very decorative look.
The plant is quite demanding to the conditions of detention, it should be protected from cold drafts and lowering the temperature below 18 degrees. Humidity also plays an important role in the life of the stromancy, the dry air in the room is extremely harmful for the plant.
When growing this ornamental plant, you may encounter a problem, most species of stromant are quite large, for this reason it will be difficult to keep them in mini-greenhouses or bottle gardens, so it is better to place them in large terrariums and florariums.
Types and varieties
Stromanta pleasant grown as a decorative leaf plant, reaching up to 20-30 centimeters in height. The leaves are oval-shaped, about 10–20 centimeters in length and 4–5 centimeters in width, with a light green color and dark green Christmas-tree patterns, on the underside of the leaf is painted in a grayish-green color. Flowers are unsightly, appear in spring or summer.
Blood red stromanta grows wild in Brazil. It is grown as an ornamental leaf plant, reaching 40-50 centimeters in height. The leaves are pointed, arrow-shaped, oval-shaped, reaching up to 15-40 centimeters in length and 7-13 centimeters in width.
On top of the leaves have a brilliant light green color with a V-shaped pattern, and at the bottom they get a reddish tint. The flowering period occurs in spring and summer, the flowers are quite small, but compactly collected in inflorescences.
Multicolor - leaf cover of dark green color, decorated with light green or white patches and spots, on the underside of burgundy color.
Maroon - leaf cover green shade, more pronounced central vein light green color, the color of the burgundy from the bottom side.
Horticolor - leaf cover is decorated with spots and stripes of olive, yellow, light green and dark green colors.
Triostar - the leaf cover is dark green in color, covered with stripes and stripes from the upper side, starting with a white and pink shade and ending with a salad color, the lower part of the burgundy color. This variety is one of the most common when grown at home, in some cases it is called Tricolor.
Stromanta care at home
Stromanta feels well enough and develops well in diffused bright light. In winter, she also needs to provide bright lighting. The plant does not tolerate direct sunlight in the spring and summer, it is necessary to darken the windows with paper or translucent cloth.
The saturation of the color and the size of the leaves depends on whether the plant is well protected from direct sunlight. If the lighting is very bright, or it is not enough, the leaves can lose their decorative coloration, as well as decrease in size.
Plants feel good on the windows of the western and eastern orientation, but if the plant is located near the south window, be sure to provide it with shading from direct sunlight. Stromanty can also be grown under artificial lighting fluorescent lamps, for 16 hours a day.
In the spring and summer, it is necessary for Stromantics to ensure a temperature regime of 22 to 27 degrees throughout the day, and at night, the temperature is slightly reduced. In autumn and winter, they keep the temperature in the aisles from 18 to 20 degrees, in no case keeping them lower. At low temperatures, overcooling of roots can occur, which will destroy the plant, for this reason it is necessary to monitor the temperature drops and avoid drafts.
Watering and humidity
The plant also needs abundant watering in spring and summer, as the topsoil dries. In the autumn-winter period, irrigation for the stromancy is reduced to moderate. Use only soft, well-settled and warm water.
An important aspect in the cultivation of this plant is to spy on the soil, so that it is not overdried or swamped, while avoiding cooling of the root system. To carry out watering, it is best after drying the top layer of soil.
It is necessary to provide the plant with increased air humidity in the aisles from 70 to 90 percent, as well as regular spraying throughout the year. Spraying should be done by fine spraying, filtered or well-settled water at room temperature.
If the plant is placed in a room with dry air, spraying produced at least once a day, ideally, this should be done twice a day.
To increase the humidity of the air near the plant, it can be placed on a pallet with wet pebbles, moss or expanded clay. At the same time, avoiding contact with the bottom of the pot. Another way to preserve moisture in a plant is to put a plastic bag on it at night.
Stromantics grow very well in florariums, mini-greenhouses and terrariums, and they feel great there too.
Fertilizers for stromals
From spring to autumn, Stromantes provide top-dressing 1 time in 2 weeks, using mineral fertilizers, with half the concentration from the directions on the package.
The plant is quite sensitive to an excess of calcium and minerals in the soil.
Stromanta transplant at home
Stromantics need to be transplanted annually in the spring or summer period, and already adult plants are transplanted once every two years, while adding fresh soil annually. In the process of transplanting, it is necessary to remove old leaves and select a high pot for the plant, according to the size of the root system.
The soil mix is composed of 2 parts of leafy ground, 1 part of peat and 1 part of sand, this soil will be humus, permeable and loose, as well as slightly acidic with a pH of 6, but no more, you can also add crushed charcoal to the soil. It is possible to compose the soil in other proportions: humus, leaf soil and peat in equal quantities and ½ of the sand.
In the absence of the opportunity to make up the soil for the stromanthas manually, you can buy it already ready, for example, the soil for maranths or the soil for azaleas will do. Some growers are advised to use the purchased soil for palm trees. Do not forget, also lay the drainage for the plant, it is approximately necessary ¼ of the height of the pot.
Reproduction of stromals by dividing the bush
Propagating the plant by dividing the bush, it is produced during transplantation; large specimens must be carefully divided into 2-3 new plants without damaging the roots. After that, land in the ground on a peat base and thoroughly water with warm water, before the next watering wait for the top layer of the soil to dry.
The container with the plant must be placed in a loosely tied plastic bag and put in a warm place, after which you should wait until the plant is strengthened and will give new leaves.
Stromant reproduction by cuttings
Propagating the plant of the stromant in the spring-summer period, using apical cuttings, it is necessary to prepare planting material: cuttings are cut from 7 to 10 centimeters long with 2-3 leaves from new shoots, the cut is made slightly below the point of attachment of the leaf to the stem part.
Prepared cuttings are placed in a container with water, in addition, you can place this container in a transparent bag or a mini greenhouse. It will take about 5-6 weeks for the cuttings to bark. Enough rooted in greenhouses with high humidity and temperature. Ready planting material is planted in peat planting soil.
- Decaying flaccid stemsare formed due to the high humidity of the air with a low temperature content.
- Slow growth, as well as dry and brown tips of leavesThis can be caused by a spider mite or indoor air that is too dry.
- Yellow-brown tips at leavesThey are caused by an excess or lack of nutrients in the soil.
- The leaves are stained and folded., this may occur due to insufficient watering, the soil of the plant should be all the time wet, but not too wet.
- Leaf cover loses color and dries. This happens because of too much sunlight.
- The leaves fall, can occur as a result of excessive irrigation or too dry air in the room, the plant does not tolerate acidification of the soil.
- Damage: spider mite, mealybug, whitefly, and shield.
Description of plants and photos
Stromanta - ornamental deciduous perennial from the family of maranths. She comes from South and Central America. Have stromans large elongated leaves, with cream, white and pink stripes on a green background. On the underside of the sheet is painted in purple-purple color.
At home, grows from 60 to 80 centimeters. In nature, the plant blooms in summer with white or pink flowers. The leaves of the stromancy have the peculiarity of rising and flaking in the evening, they become like folded hands for prayer.
There are about 13 species only Pleasant and Blood Red are grown at home. but keeping a plant in a room is rather difficult, because it needs a special balance of temperature and humidity. Therefore, it feels better in the greenhouse or greenhouse, and at home it is better to keep it in florariums or bottle gardens.
Visually with the stromant can be found in the photo below:
Stromante needs loose soil, slightly acidic.. Plant roots should receive the maximum amount of air. Ideal for a plant would be a composition of turf, peat and sand (2X1X1). For disinfection is added a little charcoal. You can also use purchased substrates for maranty, azaleas or palm trees.
Temperature and humidity
The flower loves warmth and high humidity..
It is tropical conditions with an air temperature of 20-30 degrees and a humidity of at least 70% that the stromante needs for successful growth and good health.
If the air in the apartment is dry, it is necessary to spray the plant 1-2 times a day with soft, warm water.
It is advisable to put the pot in a pan with pebbles or expanded clay, and pour water on it.
At night, you can cover the flower with a transparent cap. You can grow stromanta in an aquarium, there is the easiest to create the perfect combination of humidity and high temperature.
The plant needs a lot of water, but always filtered or settled. In addition, the water temperature should be several degrees above room temperature.
When watering it is important to maintain a balance - the soil should not dry out. But its wetting is not acceptable. Before the next watering should dry out the top layer of soil. From the pallet excess water must be drained.
In winter, the amount of moisture and the frequency of watering sharply reduced.
Transplant and pruning
Stromant transplantation is carried out by the method of transshipment. Young specimens need to be transplanted annually, adults - once every two years.
The capacity for the transplant is taken of a larger diameter than the previous one.
The roots of the plant are quite long, so for their comfortable placement you need to take a high pot.
The bottom of the pot should be filled with a large layer of drainage mixture.
During transplantation and pruning of dried and damaged leaves. In the formation of the crown of stromanth does not need.
Propagate the plant in three ways:
- The division is carried out in the spring during transplantation. The bush is divided into two, sometimes three parts, and is transplanted into slightly moist soil. Then the bushes need to give time to adapt and water only when the soil dries.
At the beginning of rooting, it is better to cover each copy with a transparent cap to create greenhouse conditions. Cuttings. It is carried out by apical cuttings. The best time is spring. Preparations of 10-11 cm are taken from the young shoots, each should have several leaves.
For the formation of roots, they are placed in a mini greenhouse in a glass of water. After five to six weeks, roots grow on the blanks, and they can be planted in pots of soil. Sowing seeds. Stromant seeds are quite capricious and have poor germination. In order to propagate a flower with seeds, you need to be patient and have high-quality seed.
Sow them in the most loose peat-sand mixture and place the dishes with crops in the mini-greenhouse. Only there it is possible to maintain a constant temperature and humidity, otherwise the seeds will not grow.
If to create suitable conditions, then in 25-30 days sprouts will appear. They can be planted in pots at the age of 2-2.5 months.
How does bloom stromanta
When grown at home, the flowers on the plant appear very rarely. But if you create ideal conditions for it, the stromante throws out a long flower spike with small red or white flowers. Its inflorescence resembles a magnificent spikelet.
Like most of the indoor plants, the stromant is affected by the following insects:
Shchitovka. The leaves are covered with brown specks, they turn pale and begin to dry out, as the pest sucks the juice.
Scrub brush cleaned with a cotton swab dipped in a solution of soap. Then the plant is treated with the drug Actellic.
Spider mite. When it multiplies the leaves are covered with white bloom. Usually a tick appears if the air in the apartment is too dry. Stromants washed with soapy water, and then treated with an insecticide.
Mealybug. When it appears, the leaves begin to curl. The plant should be wiped with cotton wool moistened in an alcohol solution and treated with insect poison. Strongly affected areas are best removed.
Problems and Diseases
If you do not comply with the necessary conditions for keeping Stromant at home, she will signal you with the following manifestations:
- leaf drying comes from an overabundance of direct sunlight, the plant should be attenuated,
- leaves witherit means the flower is cold and damp. Normalize watering and move the plant to a warmer room,
- dry tips of leaves - it says that the air is dry,
- dark spots on the leaves - the plant does not have enough moisture in the soil or too long intervals between watering are allowed,
- blanched pink stripes - the light when grown is not bright enough.
The fastidious beauty of the stromante requires constant increased attention. But if you give her time and satisfy her whims, she will delight you with beautiful foliage and become a real decoration of your home.
Home care for stromanta
Stromanta is a rather capricious and capricious plant, afraid of drafts, dry air and sudden changes in temperature. And for this reason, caring for her when growing a house is accompanied by certain difficulties. Stromanta prefers to be under diffuse, bright light or in light penumbra. If this indoor plant is under direct sunlight, or vice versa, it does not have enough light, then the leaves of the stromanti become faded, and the size of the leaf plate decreases in size.
Location and lighting
For this plant it is better to choose a place at the windows oriented to the east or west. If the place is selected on the south window, then it must be shaded. It is possible to place the stromant and on the window located in the north, but only with additional lighting with fluorescent lamps. In winter, it is simply necessary to highlight the plants.
The optimum temperature for this houseplant is 20-30 degrees in the summer and 18-20 degrees in the winter. When the temperature drops below 18 degrees, the root system may overcool, and the plant may die. In winter, the plant must be protected from drafts, sudden changes in temperature and cold air entering through the windows.
The optimum moisture content for growing stromals is 90%. With dry air in the room, this plant should be sprayed daily with settled filtered water for at least one or even a spirit once a day.
A pot with a flower is recommended to be placed on a pallet on which wet moss, pebbles or expanded clay are laid. To increase the humidity at night, the plant can be thrown over a bag of film, creating such a mini-greenhouse with a favorable habitat.
It is recommended that Stromant is watered abundantly with each drying out of the soil in the pot. For irrigation, use warm, filtered or settled water. In winter and autumn, watering should be reduced. It is very important not to bring the earthen room to dry or to stagnate water.
Soil for the cultivation of stromals should be slightly acid, loose and nutritious. For its preparation, a substrate is taken from peat, sand and leaf humus and fine charcoal is added to it.
Top dressing is carried out with special care, as with an excess of minerals and calcium in the soil, the tropical beauty may die. Feeding is recommended once every 2 weeks. Fertilizers diluted to half the concentration should be used for top dressing.
Every two years during the spring-summer period it is necessary to transplant plants. In addition, each spring in the pot should be placed fresh soil in a small amount. During each transplant, old, dried leaves must be removed.
For a flower, it is better to choose a pot higher, corresponding to the size of the earthy coma and pour drainage from expanded clay into it. The quality of the soil is better to take a mixture of sheet humus, sand and peat. To this mixture it is necessary to add fine charcoal. You can also apply the soil from the store, designed for palm trees, azaleas or maranth.
Reproduction by dividing the bush
It is best to divide the stromal shrub during spring transplantation. The plant for this is removed from the flowerpot and carefully divided into two or three parts. The separated parts of the flower can be immediately planted in the ground and watered abundantly with water standing in the room. Next time it is necessary to water only after the soil has completely dried. Pots with flowers should be covered with plastic bags and put in a warm place until the young leaves.
Reproduction rooting of the upper cuttings
For this, in spring or summer, the top of a stem about 10 cm long with two or three leaflets on it is cut off. Cuttings cut below the leaf attachment point to the stem should be placed in water and covered with a polyethylene bag. With high humidity and high temperature, the stalk will sprout after about 6 weeks and the plant can be planted in the ground.
Stromanta is a very capricious plant. The smallest disturbance can lead to plant disease. It starts to dry, the leaves will turn a faded color. Sick plant is very difficult to bring to its former form. Plant disease can be determined by the following features:
- The leaves begin to turn yellow and dry in very bright light or when direct sunlight hits the flower. In this case, the flower should be slightly pritenit.
- In case of insufficient watering, spots may appear on the leaves, and they begin to curl.
- Slow growth and drying of the tips of the leaves can be caused by too dry air or the presence of a spider mite. If systematic spraying does not help, you need to inspect the plant - whether the spider mite has started.
- Excessive watering and stagnation of water in the pots can lead to the fall of the leaves and the lethargy of the stems. Reduced room temperature can also cause this problem. Therefore, it is recommended to maintain heat indoors and apply a fungicide to treat damaged plants.
- Overdrying of soil and reduced temperature in the room can cause bending of the stalks to the sides and folding of the leaves into tubules. Maintaining heat in the room and regulated watering of plants will help correct the situation.
- With a lack or vice versa with an excess of nutrients in the soil at the edges, the leaves become a yellow-brown shade, so you should be wary of feeding the plant.
Diseases and pests
Red spider mite - under the yellowed leaves you can see small spider webs, talking about the defeat of a flower with a red spider mite. The appearance of whitish spots on the leaves and the subsequent fall of the leaves also speaks about the defeat of the stromancy by the spider mite. To eliminate pests, remove the affected leaves and wash the plant with warm water. Spray with a derris, a fitoderm, an atelic, or a fufan.
Shchitovka - a change in the color of the leaves of a plant and the fall of the leaves may indicate the presence of a scytum, which sucks the cell sap from the leaves of the plant, causes harm to it and leaves sticky secretions on them. To eliminate the pest, it is necessary to clean the leaves with a soapy sponge and spray the stromant with a 0.15% actellic solution. To prepare it, you need to dilute 1-2 ml of the preparation in one liter.
Optimal conditions for growing
Since the stromante does not belong to plants from our latitudes and grows in nature in a completely different climatic zone, it requires special conditions.
The main advantage of a houseplant is its leaves, therefore the choice of lighting is very important in caring for this flower. Optimal western and eastern windows. If it is located on the south side, shading is necessary, and if it is on the north side - additional lighting. Highlighting stromals in winter is a prerequisite.
Features care for stromanta at home
Stromanta is considered quite fastidious plant for growing at home, usually it is preferred by experienced growers. However, if you decide to make this beauty at home, read the following recommendations.
Very stromanta moisture sensitive. For her, both excessive watering and inadequate are detrimental. Watering is necessary only after the top layer of soil dries. Use filtered water. Plants of the family matrandy not tolerate the presence of mineral salts and lime.
This method is also suitable for stromals, the reproduction of the apical cuttings is recommended in spring or summer. The flower is cut stem 10 cm long with several leaves. The stalk is put into the water and covered with a film. After about 6 weeks, the roots appear, and the plant can be transplanted into the soil with a high content of peat.
Pests, diseases and other problems in the cultivation of stromants
Marantovy are considered very capricious and fastidious indoor plants, they are often susceptible to various diseases. If the leaves dry, then first of all it means that the stromanthans have a lack of moisture due to the low humidity in the room.
However, these may also be signs of the presence of a spider mite in a plant. In this case, the leaves must be wiped with a weak soap solution and arrange flower abundant shower. If the leaves have lost color and become pale before drying, the lighting is too intense for the plant, shading is necessary.
Many flower growers wonder why leaves and stromata curl and sometimes become stained. This is due to improper watering. Moreover, both insufficient and excessive watering affect the flower in this way.
In addition to the spider mites, which were mentioned earlier, the stromals are susceptible to thrips, powdery worms, whiteflies and shields. Spider mites, thrips and whiteflies are destroyed by the Aktellik. Ampoule of the drug is diluted in one liter of water and spray the affected plant.
You can get rid of aphids with the help of Fitoverma. And from the powdery worm helps such a tool: 1 tsp. grated soap dissolve in a liter of water and add 2 tsp. vodka. Irrigate the flower with a solution 2-3 times (until the pest disappears) at an interval of a week. It is better to cover the soil with a film in order to avoid soap solution getting into it.
Among florists, such species as the stromante pleasant and blood-red became the most popular.
Stromanta pleasant, or Stromanthe amabilis, reaches a height of 30 cm. The leaves are wide and oval, on long petioles, usually 10-20 cm long and about 4-5 cm wide. The leaves have a herringbone pattern on top - there is a dark green background green divergent stripes.
Blood red stromanta, or Stromanthe sanguinea, originally from Brazil. This flower is bigger. Pointed leaves can reach a length of 30-40 cm, and a width of 13 cm. The stromante of this species has the following features: the leaves are more contrasting from above and have a glossy shine. Bottom, they are painted in bright pink color. Most popular varieties this type of stromancy:
- Triostar (tricolor) - the most famous and popular variety. On the outer dark green side of the leaves there is a scattered pattern of light green, white and pinkish streaks, the lower part of the leaves is colored maroon.
- Maroon - leaves of deep green color, in the center passes a lime strip, the bottom side has a burgundy color.
- Hortikolor - on top of the leaf has olive, green and yellow shades, the underside is dark red.
- Multicolor - on top of the leaf plate is dark green with white and light green divorces, and below it is red-maroon.
The origin and appearance of the plant
Stromant is one of the most striking specimens of the Marantovy family. The closest relatives of this decorative leafy perennial recorded Ktenant, arrowroot and Calathea.
Homeland plants are tropical forests of South and Central America. Stromanta likes to hide under the cover of impenetrable thickets of trees, occurs along rivers, on flooded and swampy areas.
In the wild, the stromanth grows up to 1.5 m, and in the home - 2 times less, only 70 or 80 cm. The leaves, large and elongated, are the main decoration of the plant. They resemble the plumage of a bird of paradise. On a green background, cream, white, yellow, pink stripes are painted with generous strokes. The reverse side of the sheet - purple-violet.
In nature, the stromal flower blooms in the summer season. Inflorescence is like a whisk. Long peduncle decorated with bracts of red shades. The flowers themselves are nondescript, white. Flowering very often leads to a loss of decorative plants, it slows growth, the bush falls apart and badly restored. At home, to achieve flowering is almost impossible.
The biological peculiarity of the stromanthus, due to the stalked structure of the leaf plate, is the ability of its leaves to unfold to bright light. In the morning and in the afternoon they open and descend. In the evening, in the absence of light, they rise up, curled into a tube. Because of this feature of maranth, the plant is often called "praying plants."
Stromanta is not only a beautiful plant, but also useful. It activates the energy of the person, increasing self-confidence. The plant will help people suffering from insomnia. In the evening, the stromante will help to relax, relieve nervous tension and fatigue.
Care stromolet in room conditions - it is not quite easy. The plant is capricious and demanding, but if you find an approach to it, then all efforts will pay off a hundredfold. Best of all, the stromancy will feel in florariums, terrariums, greenhouses, greenhouses and winter gardens.
Stromant is often mistakenly called Calathea. This is due to the biological proximity of species and the similarity of leaf blades. Many scholars studying the flora did not even single out the stromancy as a separate genus. In flower shops, the plant is often sold under the name Calathea.
The appearance of the stromancy is very attractive. Its main feature is the unusual and bright color of the leaves, they are brilliant purple-violet from the inside, and on the outside they have stripes of pink, cream and green. At home, the plant height can be from 60 to 80 centimeters.
This is an ornamental plant from the Marant family, to which Calathea belongs. She is often confused with stromanta. An important feature of all these plants is that they turn the leaves towards the source of light. In the evening, they lift the leaf plates, so the Marantovic are often called "praying."
Stromants homeland is located in the forests of South and Central America, which is characterized by a tropical climate. Unlike plants in the wild, specimens grown at home bloom extremely rarely.
It is almost impossible to achieve the appearance of flower stems from the stromans at home.
Stromanta is not for a novice grower, since it is quite difficult to maintain it at home. Capricious plant is afraid of temperature fluctuations, drafts, excessive dryness and large amounts of moisture.
Stromanta Multicolor, Tricolor and other varieties of blood-red stromals
Depending on the color of the upper side of the leaf plates, the following types of stromant are distinguished:
- Multicolor On a dark green background, white and light green spots and stains.
- Triostar. On the dark green surface white and pink spots.
- Maroon The leaves are maroon below, above - dark green with a lighter vein in the center.
- Tricolor. Bottom leaves are red, on top of the background is dark green with pale stripes of pink and green.
What is needed?
The approximate composition of the soil, which is suitable for the cultivation of stromathans, is as follows:
- one piece of peat,
- one piece of sand
- one piece of humus,
- three pieces of leafy ground.
If you plan to take soil from a flower shop for transplantation, then preference should be given to a substrate called “Palm” or a similar composition for a plant called arrowroot. In any case, you will need to add a little coal (small pieces) and a small amount of moss to the ground. Such a composition is suitable for planting and transplanting plants.
Stromant has rather long roots. Therefore, preference should be given to a high volume pot.
To reduce the risk of injury to the roots to a minimum, should be transplanted by transfer. To do this, it is recommended to perform the following sequence of actions:
- Pour drainage material into горш volume pot. This may be expanded clay, split brick, small pebbles.
Watering and spraying
Caring for the stromanta, it is necessary to properly organize its hydration. Any deviation of the moisture level up or down is detrimental to the plant. Water and spray this fastidious plant can only filtered filtered heated water.
In the warm season, it will be necessary to water the stromanta often and abundantly, while in winter it will be necessary to reduce the frequency and volume by half. It is important to ensure that the earth com does not dry out. At the same time it is not necessary to allow stagnation of water in the pallet.
Since the stromante loves moisture, spraying needs to be done frequently. With dry air, this should be done at least once a day. To increase the humidity of the air, you can also install a pot with a stromant on a pallet with wet moss or expanded clay. At the same time it is necessary to ensure that the bottom of the pot does not touch the water.
If we talk about feeding, the stromante does not need a large number of minerals. Feed her enough one or two times every month. In the dormant period, which comes in winter, feeding should be stopped.
Stromant can be fertilized with special liquid complexes for decorative and deciduous household plants. Most often on sale you can find fertilizers of the following brands: Agricola, Bona Forte, Etisso and others. For stromanthans, dilute them with twice as much water as stated in the instructions.
Rooting of the apical cuttings
A suitable period for reproduction of stromanths by top cuttings will be summer or late spring. The following rules should be observed:
- The length of the cutting stem from the parent plant should be at least seven and no more than ten centimeters. On the handle should be two or three sheets. Cut off just below the place of attachment of the leaf to the shoot.
- Cut the cuttings into the previously prepared container with water and cover with plastic film.
- After five or six weeks, when the roots grow on the cuttings, they are planted in pots with a substrate, the basis of which should be peat.
Flower growers reviews about growing stromants
If you want to tickle your nerves, you can start a stromant. I've got some amazingly beautiful leaves, but then I regretted it. Immediately I say that often the beautiful multi-colored leaves of the Stromant can at home turn into just green. This is due to the fact that variegated plants need a lot of light! But not all in apartments, this condition can be met. The funny thing is that there are heaps of light on the southern windows, but it is impossible to place a stromant there — direct sunlight will not sustain the leaves! And with a lack of light, the stromante very quickly begins to go bald. Moreover, with all this, this plant grows well at a temperature below 28 degrees! Where in the apartment such conditions to take? Well, if you continue to speak, then a draft unexpected can ruin the stromant, and watering is not like that. In general, beautiful, but the care I personally did not fit.
Stromanta caught my attention with the unusual coloring of the leaves. The interior looks very cool. Stromanta is not high at all, but the bush is quite fluffy. The flower is pretty picky and requires attentive care. I often forget to moisturize it and the leaves will dry up in response. We have to urgently unsolder the flower.
This beauty was presented to me by mom, knowing her name, but without reading anything about her, I just put it on the window sill, sprayed it and watered it, but it was not there. Stromant began to dry the leaves, I increased her spraying, did not help. And then I decided to study it. Stromanta loves the light, but from the direct rays it needs to be fenced, I moved it to the east window, but in the summer I used it as a newspaper.
I bought a stroman for a month and a half ago, there were 4 bushes. During this time, 6 new leaves have already grown and 2 new bushes are growing, so I suppose that I did everything right. Immediately after the purchase, I transplanted to the Stromant in a light land with a large amount of peat, but they, however, almost all are now sold. Now about the pot - chose a wide and shallow. Of course, drainage is required. I put it half a meter from the north window (the place is not particularly sunny, you know) on a tray with water (cat litter with a grid used 🙂) and sprayed 2-4 times a day. On a sunny place, I would not put it at all, on the contrary I chose a penumbra. Watering as the top layer of the earth in the pot dries. After transplantation, I sprayed epin for 2 days, repeated epine sprayings after a week and then another 2 weeks later. A month after the transplant, she had already arranged 2 times her dushik on weekends with warm water. In my opinion, she is delighted with this procedure! After the shower, she left her in the bathroom so that she could bask in the damp air. That's all. Under the bag or under the jar, you definitely need to place it, it was better to do it after this shower. And do not forget that we need to wean from the package gradually, starting with short windings, and then increasing the time. Good luck!
With proper care, the stromante will delight its owner with bright colors for several years. She is able to fill the interior with beauty and make it more stylish and comfortable.
Stromanta is not a simple plant, it requires compliance with the rules of agricultural technology. Let us consider in more detail the conditions of the maintenance of stromans at home.
- The plant prefers scattered light or even partial shade, open sun rays adversely affect the development of leaves. If the house has all the windows south, arrange stromal shading. In winter, the flower must be illuminated with phytolamps.
- The air temperature for the stromancy is comfortable in the range of 18-19 in winter and 25-30 in summer. But from supercooling and drafts, it is necessary to protect the stromant, even a small wind from the window frame can lead to plant disease.
- Stromanta, as a representative of tropical flora, loves high humidity around him. However, if the apartment is dry, there are two ways to remedy the situation. Spray the stromanta 2 times a day, or place the pot in a pan with expanded clay or moss, regular watering of which will give the flower the required level of moisture.
- Watering stromals is abundant, in winter the frequency is reduced, but not canceled at all. Use irrigated water for irrigation and spraying.
- Top dressing of a stromamant is carried out regularly during growth and development, but it is better to reduce a dosage in 2 times from recommended on packaging. Mineral oversupply is more dangerous for a plant than a disadvantage.
- A young plant in the period of active growth requires an annual transplant. For an adult plant, it is enough to renew the site once every 2 years. When transplanting, add new soil to the pot. Do not forget about the sanitary pruning of stromals during transplantation: remove diseased and dry leaves from the plant.
