Luxurious vegetation and bright flowers require regular attention and care. Over time, ordinary watering becomes a tedious duty. To be able to automatically irrigate, extremely clear and simple in terms of assembly and operation. Should we give preference to this type of irrigation, consider below.

Automatic watering: how the system works

Autowatering is recommended for irrigation of greenhouse crops, shrubs, trees, beds, flower beds and plantations. If it is not possible to install a irrigation sprinkler, automatic irrigation systems can be installed for lawn irrigation (for example, if the lawn is too narrow or has an intricate curved shape).

The main component of the system is a long perforated hose. Thanks to this structure, a continuous and uniform distribution of water is ensured. Drip irrigation works at a rate that allows moisture to fall on the soil surface and be absorbed in a specific period of time. For 2 hours, one point of the automatic irrigation system (subject to regulation on watering flowers) soaks the soil within a radius of 15 cm to a depth of 10-15 cm.

Irrigation provides a special program that monitors the operation of valves and water pressure.

Water can be heated and fertilizer added to it. The range of angle of irrigation can vary from 25 to 360 degrees, providing a sufficient depth of moisture penetration throughout the area.

Benefits of using automatic watering

Auto-watering systems have long been the main component of well-kept areas, flower beds and lawns. Many gardeners had time to replace the manual watering on the auto. And all thanks to the fact that the automated irrigation system has several advantages:

  • providing a regular and sufficient amount of moisture to plants,
  • uniform watering,
  • washes and nails dust
  • cleans and moisturizes the air, creates natural cooling,
  • easy installation and operation
  • reduction of water consumption up to 50% (watering is rational).
And finally, the main advantage of auto watering is independence. If it takes at least three hours to irrigate the site manually, then with such a system you can devote this time to rest, for those close to you, or to do other work. The automatic watering device will independently moisten the soil, and will do it on time and perfectly. It is enough to set up the system once so that it will work independently for a long time.

Planning and design of automatic irrigation system

You should not worry if you have a magnificent landscape design on the site - the installation of automatic irrigation is carried out carefully and in no way will harm the growing crops.

The water source for an automatic drip irrigation system can be a water supply system or a well that meets certain technical characteristics. If the automatic watering does not work, it is practically invisible on the site, and during work under pressure, water sprayers rise, which water the area. Despite the fact that the drip irrigation system is easy to use, it is recommended to trust its specialists to design and install it. However, a lawn watering system can be made with your own hands. For this you need to consider a few nuances:

  1. Plot scheme. Topographical features, future constructions and grouping of cultures will be important for the design of the project.
  2. The soil. Carefully analyze the composition, the presence of natural water sources.
  3. Landscape. When installing the system, it is necessary to take into account the size of the site and the garden landscape.
Only after that you can start choosing a lawn irrigation system.

How to install an automatic watering system

To independently build a drip irrigation system, you will need the following elements:

  • Mini pump. It is possible to use a water pump for an aquarium as this element. The higher the power, the more effective the drip watering of the seedlings will be.
  • Long hose. It should not be transparent.
  • Tee or special inserts, mounted in the hose. Through them the water will flow into the soil.
  • Timer.
  • Cranes. They will help create an extensive system.

Installation of autowatering is a simple process that is performed according to the instructions attached to the kit. In fact, the whole procedure consists of a specific procedure:

  1. The plan of the plot on which it is planned to irrigate automatically (in a greenhouse, on a bed or on a flowerbed) is schematically drawn. Here you need to pay attention to all the features of the place: slopes, where there is a well or water supply system, etc.
  2. A container is installed (usually a barrel) in which water will be stored. The vessel is placed at a height of 1-1.5 meters. In the tank installed in this way, the water will heat up during the day, and in the evening there will be an automatic irrigation of the site with water, a temperature comfortable for the plants (for some crops, the irrigation temperature is of great importance).
  3. The installation of trunk pipes. They are laid either on top of the ground, either with instillation into the soil, or on supports. It is simpler and more efficient to put a hose on the ground for further operation and maintenance.
  4. Depending on the number of beds, drip tape is calculated. If the watering system is installed personally, you must purchase a cleaning filter.
  5. Starter is installed. Small holes (15 mm) are made in the trunk pipe, seals are inserted into them into which the starter will be mounted later. Drip hose is hermetically sealed, the edge is cut to 5 mm. The other end is curled and also trimmed.
  6. Controllers are installed to water in the right amount.
After the installation of self-watering with your hands will be completed, the first start is made to test the system.

Features of operation of the system of autowatering

It is quite simple to use such a system - watering will be carried out according to the assigned parameters. All you need to do is set the irrigation time and the volume of water consumption.

As a rule, automatic irrigation is programmed for irrigation at night - this period is considered favorable for plants and does not interfere with the work in the garden. Having established the mode of watering once, it is possible to control its work only 2-3 times in a season.

To prevent frost damage to the system in winter, it is recommended to preserve it. Perform this procedure before the onset of the first frost.

To prepare irrigation systems for winter, you need:

  • empty the container from the water and cover it so that no precipitates get inside,
  • remove batteries, pump from the control unit and transfer to a dry room,
  • droppers and hoses to remove, blow compressor, twist and put in a container, limiting the access of rodents.
After overwintering, the system needs to be flushed and checked for serviceability. To do this, the plugs on the droppers are removed and include water. If the water is clean, then the system is sealed and working properly. Also around each dropper should remain wet spots with a diameter of 10-40 mm (depending on the adjustment). If the stains differ in size, the dropper must be cleaned or replaced.

The reason for the improper operation of the automatic irrigation system may be blockages, which occur due to:

  1. Sludge, sand, undissolved fertilizer. It is necessary to use water filters and clean them regularly.
  2. Too hard water. The normal pH level is 5-7, you can use special acid additives for irrigation systems.
  3. Waste from living organisms. Light chlorination is applied and the system is regularly washed.
By following these simple rules of care, the system can be used for more than one year.

Gardening is not such a simple thing - it takes a lot of effort and time. Today, gardeners come to the aid of modern technologies that allow them to equip lawn, garden beds, and the greenhouse with automatic irrigation. And they can enjoy the view of the green lawn and lush flowerbed without much hassle.

Features of the device drip irrigation system

All systems of automatic irrigation are a conductive element - a pipe or hose, the flow and pressure of the fluid in which is regulated by means of automation.

As a rule, there are programmers, timers, filters and various control units for valve valves or pumps - that is, devices that start and control the process of automatic drip irrigation. Very convenient sensors that are able to independently determine the level of humidity in the greenhouse and, if necessary, turn on the water supply. The most expensive and most effective is considered deep watering. In this mode, the water does not wash the ground from under the roots of plants, does not fall on the fruits and leaves. Depth irrigation system in the greenhouse delivers the necessary moisture directly to the roots of plants.

The general scheme of drip irrigation in the greenhouse.

Drifters irrigation systems enjoy the attention of gardeners. Such systems allow you to organize round-the-clock watering in the greenhouse. Water enters exactly in such quantity that is necessary for ensuring normal development of plants. If you decide to purchase a modern drip irrigation system for your greenhouse, be sure to consult with a qualified specialist, because There is a huge assortment of watering installations on the market, the cost and equipment of the options can vary significantly. The specialist will help you to choose such an option that fits into the available budget and will best suit the solution of important irrigation tasks, taking into account the available data, such as: area of the greenhouse, drip irrigation time, power source, water source. For the device drip irrigation in the greenhouse you need the following:

  1. The kit itself.
  2. Water tank.
  3. Gaskets.
  4. Nuts
  5. Awl.
  6. Filter.
  7. Flexible hoses.
  8. Traffic jams.
  9. Vinyl or copper hoses.

Designing an automatic irrigation system

The scheme of the tube for drip irrigation.

Autowatering systems are very effective, but quite expensive. In order not to waste your money, you need to carefully plan and plan everything, and then decide whether this idea makes sense.

The planning of an automatic irrigation system begins with the most important thing - choosing a water source. Is there a suitable source at your cottage? If there is one, you need to determine how much water per hour it can provide. For example, for a plot of 6 acres will need 4 m³ / h. If there is a central water supply on your site or you plan to take water from a pond or river, then most likely there will be no problems. And if a well or a well, then you need to know its volume. If the volume of the source is less than the required amount or is equal to the required value, then after 1 hour you risk remaining without water.

In addition, water from a well or a well must be checked for salt content. If the salt content is above the norm, then over time your flowering garden or the beds in the greenhouse will turn into a saline desert.

It is necessary to correctly calculate the area for irrigation. To do this, take the paper, pencil and tape measure. It is more convenient to use millimeter paper. The scale can be taken 1: 1 (1 m to 1 cm per sheet). From the total area of the greenhouse clean the area of all non-irrigated places. Then, using a tape measure (you can just walk by steps, accuracy up to a millimeter is not critical here) measure the area of the plots for which automatic irrigation is needed. Display these areas on the plan. Specify their area. You will need all these data to calculate the required number of sprinklers and their parameters.

Scheme of irrigation pipe sprinkler.

Take a look at your sites and their area. It is necessary to determine which plot will be enough for one sprinkler. So, for example, if you have a plot of 20 m², then it will be enough for him to set 1 point and pick up a sprinkler with a covering area of about 22 m². Installing two or more points on one irrigation site will be more expensive. It will be easier to provide an acceptable level of pressure in the pipes. However, if various structures get into the irrigation zone, which do not need to be watered, then you will have to design a system with several irrigators of a smaller area of action in order not to waste water.

If there are two or more sprinklers to be installed on the plot, then spray out the spraying zones with a compass so that they intersect. In this case there will be no dry zones. About the scale, too, do not forget.

Now draw the pipelines for the automatic irrigation system. They are drawn from the water intake point into the system. Try to arrange a gasket with as little pipe flow as possible. It is not recommended to lay them too close to other communications.

Equipment for the automatic drip irrigation system

Drip irrigation: tape with droppers.

In any irrigation system, whether it is automatic watering the beds in the greenhouse or lawn, you must include a pumping station. The power of equipment for the automatic irrigation system is selected in accordance with the required pressure in the system. To provide a pressure of 4-5 atmospheres, it will be quite enough for an ordinary budget hydrophore, which is presented in a large range in building supermarkets. If in your water supply system there is low pressure, then a cumulative capacity of 0.5 m³ should be added to the hydropher.

Pipes for the system to choose at its discretion. The most budget option is blue plastic. From the water intake point, a pipe with a diameter of 40 mm will be needed, which is laid up to the first tee in the system separating the central line. Next, a pipe with a diameter of 16 mm or 32 mm is laid. With low pressure it will be possible to do with a pipe with a diameter of 32 mm. From solenoid valves - tube with a diameter of 16 mm.

The system must be designed in such a way that the location of the valves is as compact as possible. It is desirable in one place, then there will be few such wells. This will further save. The number of adapters, couplings and tees, as well as their diameter must be selected in accordance with the features of the project.

Next you need to choose sprinklers. The best option for the greenhouse is drip irrigation. To build such a system, you will need drip tubes for the length of the beds, an injector and drip fittings. The injector can be delivered later. It is necessary for the supply of fertilizers. For irrigation of the lawn rotor irrigators are best suited. When irrigating, such sprinklers cover the maximum area, and in non-working time they are invisible. Fan or static sprinklers are well suited for watering flowers.

The most important element, without which the irrigation system simply will not be automatic, is the controller. Modern controllers have many functions, the amount of which depends on the cost of equipment.

The device of the automatic irrigation system: important nuances

In the process of designing and selecting equipment for the automatic irrigation system of the greenhouse, attention should be paid to the following points:

Scheme of work drip irrigation.

  1. For systems drip irrigation necessarily need pressure regulators.
  2. Be sure to provide a mechanical filter cleaning to the pumping station. Thanks to him, the sprinklers will be protected from clogging. And installing the filter to the pump avoids the pressure drop on the filter.
  3. If budget allows, it is best to use wireless solenoid valves for irrigation systems. The difference in cost is not so big, since the installation of the cable disappears even during installation. And in the future, these systems are much easier to maintain and repair (for example, the wires will not oxidize, which reduces maintenance costs).

Assembly and connection of the automatic watering system: step by step instructions

First you need to find and install the tank, on the basis of which your drip irrigation system will work. Water will be taken from this tank for irrigation. Tanks of various sizes can be bought on the market or in stores. You can adjust for this old barrel.

For irrigation, you will need a submersible pump that should be installed on a container with water. The main pipe is connected to the submersible pump. Pipe diameter - 16 mm.

There are 2 ways, according to which you can take the pipe out of the tank: through the top opening in the tank (if the pump power allows it) or you can drill a hole in it with a diameter of 16 mm, insert a sealant (it allows you to cut the fitting into the tank), through this hole to pass the trunk pipe.

With the help of fittings, the main pipe is distributed to the beds. Pull up to the end of each row. At the end of the trunk pipe is installed plug.

Now you need to organize drip irrigation for each bush of the cultivated crop with the help of layers from the main pipe.

The selected dropper is inserted into the main pipe - to the place where a hole was previously made with a punch. From it using a smaller tube is carried out on the distance to the plant. At the end of the tube you need to install a drip tip, which is inserted into the ground next to the plant.

On this system is almost ready. The only thing left for you to do is to set the submersible pump on a timer. By means of the timer of switching off and inclusion of supply of electricity it is possible to regulate operation of the pump. For example, if you set the pump to turn on at 9 in the morning and turn off at 9.30, then through a dropper at 2 l / h each plant will receive 1 l of water. As plants grow, the amount of watering can be adjusted by increasing the duration of the equipment or by adjusting the droppers. To save water and electricity consumption, experienced gardeners recommend buying adjustable droppers.

The essence of drip irrigation

Principle of operation drip irrigation is to deliver moisture directly to the roots plants without affecting the stems and leaves. It is known that on a sunny and hot day, water droplets on the leaves form a kind of lens, and the leaves get burned. Drip irrigation in the greenhouse will eliminate these problems.

In the greenhouse, a fairly limited space and the soil is quickly depleted. With ordinary watering, puddles form on the soil surface, and water does not flow fully to the plant roots. At the same time, the structure of the soil is also disturbed. When watering is carried out in small doses, the soil structure remains virtually intact.

The essence of this method is water supply efficiency in the greenhouse. Using drip irrigation is almost impossible to waste water. This is especially true if the site has a central water supply.

Droppers

Water is supplied to plants in small doses and usually such systems are automated. The main element of such a system is droppers. Droppers are divided into two types: regulating the permeability of water per hour and not having such a function. In addition, there are droppers that allow you to maintain water pressure regardless of the pressure in the pipeline.

Hoses that come from the main source of water supply are still attached to the droppers. As a rule, it is a water pipe or a large container filled with water.

Drip tape

The budget option available to every summer resident. Main disadvantage drip tape it is their fragility, and easy damage to garden pests, but they are very easy to install.

The design consists of a plumbing hose, all kinds of fixings and a polyethylene tube with thin walls, on which there are holes from which water flows.

They are located at different distances from each other. It can be 20 cm and 100 cm. After the water supply hose is attached to the tape, water starts to flow from these holes.

Plastic bottles

The method using plastic bottles is extremely economical, considering that this material is practically free. Anyone who is willing to be able to build irrigation using bottles in a greenhouse on their own. This does not require special skills.

The disadvantages include the fact that this method not suitable for large greenhousesthat would be irrational and problematic. And also with this watering, the soil should be light, otherwise the outlet openings in the bottles quickly become clogged.

Hose watering

This method is also called "oozing hose". It is somewhat similar to the drip tape method. Only in this case, instead of tapes taken ordinary hosewhich joins the filled barrel with water or the central water supply system. Holes are made in the hose and it is distributed in the beds in the greenhouse.

Pros in simplicity and efficiency of the method. The only disadvantage is the uneven water supply, if the hose is connected directly to the water supply system.

Automatic systems

Some automated kits completely do the whole thing. process autonomous. The automatic irrigation system for the greenhouse itself consists of a large water tank and a network of hoses attached to it.

Automation is that the design is equipped with pumps connected to the water supply system or well. That is, watering in the greenhouse is automatic, carried out without your participation.

Automated systems have built-in self-cleaning function, as well as various valves and filters. Drip hoses in such constructions are rather thin, they become flat when folded, for which they are called “ribbons”.

Autowatering in the greenhouse can be subsurface and drip. Subsurface watering has the greatest effect, since water flows directly to the roots. Topsoil remains intact, and moisture does not evaporate from the surface of the soil. Although this method is very effective, not many can afford it. Therefore, it is not yet very popular.

Automatic drip irrigation systems can operate with virtually no human intervention. They are installed timer and electronic controller, which is configured to automatically fill the tank and the water supply.

Microdrop watering

Simple design, which consists in the superficial sprinkling of small water droplets on the beds. In this case, a large amount of water is divided into small drops and the plant or crop that needs it is irrigated.

The method as a whole has no flaws.

In the photo below: drip irrigation systems for greenhouses, scheme, device, equipment

Water sources

The source of water for drip irrigation can be:

  • Special water storage tanks
  • Water pipe or well,

Barrels apply to all types of drip irrigation. Starting from a simple hose method to fully automated systems. Although drip systems are able to perform their function without the use of barrels, but warm, settled water is more useful to plants than the same water, but going directly.

System selection

The stores now have a huge selection of drip systems for every taste and budget. And often it is difficult to choose the optimal system. When buying a drip irrigation system, consider the following:

  1. If the greenhouse has large area or few, better automated system can not found. It will ensure the state of soil moisture in the best possible way.
  2. If frequent visits to the suburban area are impossible or planned vacation, you should pay attention to the model with built-in timer.
  3. Also, drip systems have a difference in the intended irrigation area. Before you go to the store, you need to know exactly the size of the beds in the greenhouse.
  4. Quite budget options include only hoses and connecting mechanisms for connecting to the centralized water supply.

Hot and dry summer, as well as infrequent visits to the cottage will no longer be a problem. Drip irrigation of greenhouses is a way by which you can forget about the troubles and difficulties of standard irrigation. We hope now you know how to choose a drip irrigation system for the greenhouse.

Varieties of drip systems

To date, several drip irrigation systems that are fundamentally different from each other have become most common. They can be successfully used outdoors and in greenhouses.

The main types of automatic irrigation include:

  • drip irrigation,
  • sprinkling,
  • underground systems
  • simplified underground watering.

Each of these technologies has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, drip irrigation involves connecting to the main pipeline when water is directed through pipes to small droppers, which allow to measure the amount of water entering the plant.

The main disadvantage of such a system is its high cost and complexity of the design.

Automatic drip irrigation in the greenhouse is arranged just in the manner shown in the video.

The water from the main pipeline is delivered to the drip, and passing through the reducing armature, comes out in the form of droplets under the planting root. When this happens, the zone is moistened, the size of which varies depending on the physical properties of the soil, the level of moisture in the ground before irrigation, the rate of evaporation, the irrigation period and the dropper placement pattern. But the soil between the rows remains dry.

What number of droppers you need to buy is determined depending on the type of plants, how they are planted, how much water is needed per plant, etc. The distance between them is determined by the type of planted plants: for vegetable crops, the intervals are selected in 0.2-2 m, for trees - in 2-6 m.

Drip irrigation technology has shown itself on the good side of many agricultural enterprises, especially in developed countries, where water is scarce. Today, more advanced materials, devices and methods of its use are being introduced.

How to make an automatic drip irrigation in the greenhouse with your own hands

To make an automatic drip irrigation in the greenhouse with your own hands, as in the video, or something more complicated, you will need the following equipment:

  1. timer - irrigation controller,
  2. hose drip irrigation,
  3. tank (tank) for water settling,
  4. mesh filter and ball valve for zone overlap and cleaning.
  5. trunk pipe,
  6. droppers (in case of use of a blind hose),
  7. fittings for connecting pipes and drip irrigation pipes.

If you roughly understand how such systems function, then it will be easy for you, if you have not done automatic watering yourself, then we will explain to you in more detail.

Step-by-step instruction for self-assembly

First of all, let's draw a plan of the greenhouse or beds on the street where you plan to place the irrigation system.

A plan is a guarantee that you will collect everything correctly. It will take into account the length of the pipe, the number of fittings, marked filter, ball valve overlap flow and pump. The tank volume and diameter of the main highway, as well as the depth of the suburban water supply system are also calculated.

What brands to use

There are several major brands of equipment with high quality performance and reliability:

  • Hunter,
  • Rain Bird,
  • Irritec,
  • Poliext,
  • Toro.

The equipment of any of these brands will serve you for a long time and will reliably irrigate your greenhouse or vegetable garden at the cottage. For summer residents who are constrained in the budget, the use of Chinese equipment is not recommended in any case, despite the low cost.

Installation of drip irrigation do it yourself

Assembling drip irrigation with your hands begins with the choice of the location of the controller. From this point we will lead the main pipe to the garden or greenhouse.

The main pipe is connected using compression fittings to an electromagnetic valve or a ball valve (if the system is not automatic). After the valve is usually transferred directly to the drip hoses.

The connection with compression elements is very reliable and in no way inferior to the welded plastic at this stage.

Hose set droppers under the root of the plant to increase its water and fertilizer feed. The level of soil moisture can be adjusted by adding or reducing the irrigation time of the zone.

Add fertilizer to tank

Soluble fertilizers can be added to the tank to increase yields and improve plant health. The content of fertilizers in water will not affect the clogging of the drip system.

Supply of nutrients can be carried out on a specific schedule in automatic mode, if you add an additional timer and capacity.

Watering in the country

In the private sector, drip irrigation in the country is the most common solution to the issue of irrigation of flowers and plants in the garden.

Buy a perforated hose, a few valves and a remote and forget, and manual watering with a watering can is not so expensive. The price can start from 5 000 rubles for the simplest system.

Benefits of using drip irrigation

  • yield increase,
  • the possibility of early collection of fruits
  • 45% water saving (which is very important for areas with poor water availability for irrigation),
  • the possibility of introducing mineral fertilizers with the supplied water through the aqueduct,
  • lack of leaching and soil erosion, so that the roots of plants can "breathe",
  • protection from moisture from leaves and fruits, which eliminates sunburn,
  • lack of fungal diseases of plants, ensuring healthy growth of the garden,
  • compliance with constant irrigation parameters, the ability to regulate pressure and water flow,
  • inhibition of weed growth, which allows to increase the interval between land treatments,
  • no cost manual labor, lower prices.

Features of the irrigation system

When buying and installing automatic watering, it is possible to regulate all moisture cycles. The site owner can program the time and abundance of watering the area.

There is no need to turn off the installation of drip irrigation during rain. Water to the root system comes only in the amount that is necessary for optimal soil moisture. Weather sensors take into account all changes in the environment. During precipitation, automatic drip irrigation is suspended.

In addition, the system uses a soft hose that is resistant to sub-zero temperatures. The system can be left for the winter period in the ground, which reduces the price for its operation. Providing perfect conditions, the drip irrigation system is easy to operate for a long time serving its owner.

Drip irrigation garden

Drip irrigation in a vegetable garden is an individual irrigation water supply system, which has its own source, pump, automation and a special design of plumbing from a plastic pipe. It connects to the water supply system only to fill the tank with water.

A device for automatic drip irrigation of a vegetable garden, as a rule, includes:

  • Node for collecting irrigation water, for example a tank,
  • The node where water is filtered for its further passage into the system,
  • Knot for introduction of mineral fertilizers and protravitel,
  • Main pipeline
  • Pipes for distributing drip lines (tubes and tapes),
  • Fittings to connect the drip tape or tube with the main pipeline,
  • Water meter
  • Pressure gauge,
  • The control panel - the controller programmer,
  • Scheme of drip irrigation system.

Drip irrigation in a greenhouse from droppers

If the pipeline is installed above the ground, the droppers are mounted on the irrigation pipelines themselves, and if below, then on the outlet pipes in a strictly upright position. In the first case, the fastening takes place with the help of suspension clamps, and in the second - with the help of clamps.

The diameter of the dropper holes is 0.3-2 mm, and the water consumption is 0.9-12 liters / hour.

Drip irrigation in a greenhouse from droppers is the most popular solution for both private summer cottages and industrial agricultural greenhouses. Buy equipment of this type is often cheaper than other alternatives.

Agro irrigation - drip irrigation tape

In order to make the agro-irrigation economical and profitable in exploitation they use drip tape. Under the plants fall the same drops, but due to the simplicity of the design, the tape is much cheaper than a hose.

The pump for agro irrigation is selected taking into account the fact that the main parameter in this case is water consumption in the system, and not pressure, it is impossible to use conventional pumping equipment for the drip irrigation system, due to its high cost and unsuitable operating parameters.

The main pressure losses in the water supply system usually occur on the filter and on the overlap valve of the total flow, as well as on the valves that block irrigation zones. Since in the total volume these figures are insignificant, you can omit the local resistances and make calculations based on the pressure loss along the length of the pipeline.

A tank or tank in this case is a river or a pond, because the system has a very high flow rate, which should be provided with a large supply of renewable water resources for flow. The water level in the reservoir should be approximately constant throughout the season.

For installation of a tape of a drop irrigation standard fittings of drop lines of compression type from the same material, for example of the Rain Bird brand are applied. The diameter of the supply line is always greater than the zonal.

Automation and controller for agricultural systems are usually not used because of the general appreciation - they are redundant elements. Overlap zones with an ordinary tap. It is necessary that the agro-irrigation is effective, but cheap. We have to use disposable cheap plastic tape of thin material, unpretentious to install.

The holes on the tape will not have to be cleaned due to the fact that during the irrigation season, a simple design will not have time to clog. A nozzle emitter is the best way to provide water to a vegetable garden, even if it is an industrial plot of ten hectares, from which you need to collect a decent harvest.

Designing areas for watering plants

Before you install automatic watering at the site and understand its total cost, you need to prepare in advance a project for locating this design. Можно лишь схематически отобразить территорию с указанием ее точных параметров. На составленном плане ставятся отметки для обозначения размещения емкости с водой и маршрутов прокладки трубопроводов.

At this stage, you should determine the types of crops that will be grown on the planned plot. From the choice of plantings irrigation system may vary and you may need to buy other components. In addition, when drawing up the scheme of the drip irrigation system, it is necessary to plan the length of the beds with plantings and the distance between them.

Of great importance is the calculation of the amount of water that will be required for the dropper, the number and layout of the water loss points in the humidification zone, the uniform distribution of the liquid with droppers, taking into account the irrigation area.

After taking into account all factors, you can install the system of automatic watering. To do this, you need to lay a water supply system, install sprinklers and connect it to the pump and control panel. After setting the appropriate irrigation mode, the system can be put into operation.

The difference between irrigation and drip irrigation

The main difference between drip and sprinkler irrigation is that the drip method is more efficient in terms of water consumption.

The sprinkler simulates rain, the drip line is just a nozzle emitting droplets directly under the plant root, which minimizes water loss for evaporation, unlike the first method.

Vegetable garden, field or greenhouse in theory can be watered in any of these ways, but taking into account the needs of the growing culture.

Sprinkling is most often used for lawn irrigation, and drip irrigation with hoses for growing agricultural crops.

In what areas is drip irrigation used

Drip irrigation can be used in any territory - in the country, in the garden, in the greenhouse and even in the fields. Such an automatic irrigation system is most often used at the dacha - beds, flower beds, lawns will always be in favorable conditions, and you will not have to think about daily watering of plants.

For most gardeners, this option remains the most preferred. This is evidenced by its efficiency. In addition, install autowatering in the country will be much cheaper. Yes, and another irrigation system in small areas is practically not needed.

It is hard to imagine a modern country house without a greenhouse. To wait for a good harvest, you need as much as possible to choose the system of automatic watering in the greenhouse. Particularly acute is the question when to go to the country too often is not possible. An excellent solution to the problem is the installation of drip irrigation in the greenhouse.

Also, the automatic lawn irrigation system will provide you with an invaluable service. Thanks to the automatic watering lawn will always delight the eye with emerald greenery and freshness. And the necessary watering is carried out without human intervention.

The principle of operation of automatic drip irrigation

If to explain in the simplest terms, the water enters in some way (depending on which water supply you make or which system you collect) into the pipes that are laid along the beds. Further, under pressure, water through special nozzles (sprinklers or droppers) leaves the pipes and enters your beds or soil directly to the roots of the plants.

Now they sell various systems of automatic watering. These are options with external nozzles, sprinklers, push-button, tape with droppers built into the tube. Before buying such systems, you will need to go around quite a few specialized stores, listen to a bunch of opinions and tips, read a lot of information, instructions. The principles of working with purchased drip irrigation for greenhouses and those made by hand are generally the same. The main thing is to know that you want to invest from this device, how much money you are willing to invest, and whether you can make the entire system on your own and configure it correctly.

Before buying a ready-made drip irrigation system, you need to know:

  • type of system
  • pump power
  • what sensors or valves, taps, nozzles (mechanical or electromagnetic) are used in one system or another,
  • what related parts need to be purchased,
  • the complexity of self-assembly and system configuration.

There are adjustable and unregulated droppers. With adjustable droppers, you can reduce water consumption.

If you find it difficult to choose drip irrigation for irrigation yourself, then ask the consultant for all the details, do not take the first one or draw conclusions on the price. Expensive does not mean good.

But expensive, incomprehensible, but also, perhaps, unreliable purchases can be avoided if you do everything yourself.

Preparatory work

First of all, you need to decide where the water will come from (well, cistern, tank or water supply pipe). The tank or barrel can be purchased in the store or on the market.

The source should be near the place where you place the irrigation system. If the water is far away, then more material will be needed to connect the water to the system or it will be necessary to make a longer trench for laying pipes under the ground. Even worse, if the pipes are above the ground - they will interfere with walking around the site.

Next, we need to calculate the area of irrigated soil. This is the size of the greenhouse, and plant species. Some plants consume more water. It is best to split plantings in groups or zoned. Calculate the length and width between the beds. Make the layout of tubes, hoses, droppers and source. Do not be lazy and draw a diagram of a greenhouse or vegetable garden with the system laid on a piece of paper. Calculate the length of the pipes, the approximate number of joints (tees) and the approximate number of droppers themselves.

Next we go to the store and purchase (preferably with the help of a consultant) a hose or plastic pipes, droppers, tees, a pump, a timer or a controller (if you want the watering to take place at a certain time). Of course, it is advisable to purchase filters for water treatment, which can protect your plants from rust and do not clog the pipes. If you install a filter in front of the pump, you can also protect the pump from premature failure.

We make automatic drip irrigation do it yourself

Preparation of soil for irrigation and assembly of the system must be done in advance, before planting seeds. When the first dry days begin, you will not have time to go shopping, look for pipes and build a system. Place a tank or barrel near the greenhouse. It is advisable to put the source above ground level by 1 m. Do the trenches (if the pipes will run in the upper layers of the soil). Assemble the pipe system in the greenhouse itself, connecting all the joints according to the layout on the sheet. Pipes should run along the entire length of the bed. At the ends of the pipes, install the plugs.

Only make holes in pipes or hoses with an awl in such a way that the dropper is forced into the hole. Otherwise, the pressure dropper will fly out of the hose. It may also occur due to the material of the pipes or hoses. Connect all tubes to the main tube that is powered by the pump.

The main pipe must be larger than the pipes passing through the beds. Arrange the droppers so that they are not too large for one group of plants. Remove all the plugs and make the first start of the system. Check if there is enough pressure, if there is an excess of water flow, if water is flowing from all the droppers. Also, during the first start-up, the entire system will be flushed and rust with various precipitations will not fall into the soil when the plants are already planted. Next, make sure it works on a timer. Water must be supplied and overlapped at a certain time, otherwise there will be a high consumption of water, and overflow of plants.

So we did it all. Watch the water level in the tank. Water must be replenished in the tank, otherwise the plants will remain without watering. Do not forget to drain water from the system for the winter, otherwise the ice may damage the construction and also lead to new spending of money and time for assembling and setting up the system.

Now you can independently install and configure the system of automatic drip irrigation. If something did not work out for you, you can always go to the store and ask the consultant about this or that product for your system. You will need to enjoy the warm summer days. Harvest your crops and not think about when it will rain or from where and when to water your favorite vegetables. Have a good harvest!
